Nothing in the country is in progress if there is no public participation. The association "Latvian Folk Art Union" was founded in 2002 to promote the development of the sector, explaining the importance of the intangible cultural heritage, including the conservation, the development and inheritance of different craft skills.
The association “Latvian Folk Art Union” (further – LFAU) has been a member of fully rights of European Folk art and Craft Federation since the year 2007. EFACF – European Folk Art and Craft Federation – was founded in 1972 and its members are non profit organization with a clear aim to promote and work for folk art and craft. The network aims to strengthen contact between craftsmen in European countries in the context of exchange of skills and knowledge. Today the Federation is a network consisting of 12 European organizations in 11 different countries. . Every year there is a members meeting in one of the member countries, and every third year the general assembly is held.
